Easter Egg in Vase Mode

In this post, I’m excited to share my journey of participating in the Printables Easter 2024 contest (https://www.printables.com/contest/432) for the first time. My fascination with vase mode printing has led me to design a half-cracked egg, perfectly tailored for vase mode printing. This piece doubles as an adorable planter, making it a fantastic gift for the Easter holidays! Start by downloading the STL files here: https://www.printables.com/model/820365-vase-mode-cracked-easter-egg-planter.

Materials

For this project, I used the following PLAs:

  • Elegoo Marble PLA delivered a distinctive matte finish reminiscent of natural stone, which I absolutely adored! https://amzn.to/43FC0b2
  • The Amazon Basics Silk Gold PLA can help achieve that quintessential golden egg look: https://amzn.to/3VOGiLp

Vase Mode Printing Settings

I tried it out on the Creality Ender 3 V3 KE with a 0.4mm nozzle and set it up for vase mode with Orca Slicer. After playing around with various PLA mixes and speeds, I landed on these settings as the best fit:

  • Spiral vase mode
  • 1 Wall loop
  • Support disabled
  • 0 top shell layers
  • 40 bottom shell layers
  • 0 Sparse infill density
  • Move at a slow 60mm/s
  • 0.12mm layer height
